City Rail Link construction resumed at 6 sites around Auckland this week, after a karakia at each site.
That started on Tuesday morning, when Renata Blair & Te Kurataiaho Kapea of Ngati Whatua Orakei led a traditional karakia at CRL’s Lower Queen St & Aotea Station sites.
The Britomart, Albert St, Aotea, Karangahape, Mt Eden & Otahuhu sites were all secured before the Covid-19 alert level 4 lockdown came into effect, reopening when the country moved into lockdown level 3 this week.
CRL Ltd chief executive Dr Sean Sweeney said the preparatory work completed at CRL sites, together with planning & design work done by staff working remotely during the lockdown, contributed to a successful return to work.
“Given the project’s size and the contribution it can make, getting back to work quickly will be a significant & important contribution to the revival of the New Zealand economy,” he said
Dr Sweeney said it would be some months before the project has a clearer view of the lockdown’s impact on costs & construction timetables.
