Waterfront Auckland has called for expressions of interest, closing Friday 21 November, to develop the 1.6ha Wynyard Marine site next to the recently developed superyacht berths at Silo Marina, across the western end of the city waterfront from the Westhaven Marina.
The site at 164-168 Beaumont St was the base for Luna Rossa’s 2012-13 America’s Cup challenge and was later a mast-stepping location for Southern Spars.
Waterfront Auckland is seeking interest from marine & superyacht refit & yard operators, developers & investors – including specialist marine infrastructure investors – to acquire a long-term leasehold interest in 16,241m² of marine-zoned land and a waterspace licence over the 10,663m² of waterspace immediately adjacent to the land.
Within the current zoning parameters there is also capacity to develop 7550m² gross floor area of marine, commercial & retail space and 6000 m² gross floor area of residential &/or serviced apartments.
Waterfront Auckland chief executive John Dalzell said Auckland was growing more popular as a refit destination, there was a resurgence of new-builds locally & internationally and the NZ Marine Industry Association & Tourism NZ were progressing an investment & marketing strategy to double the number of superyachts visiting the country over the next 5 years.
Initial assessments by Waterfront Auckland suggested a facility catering for large superyachts (600-2000 tonnes).
