Auckland mayor Len Brown will sign a 3-way trade & economic agreement in China next Sunday with the mayors of Guangzhou & Los Angeles.
The Auckland mayor’s office said the agreement would focus on forging connections between the cities’ education, screen & digital, innovation & tourism sectors, and was believed to be the only agreement of its kind.
“The trip & the new alliance aim to raise Auckland’s profile with 2 international economic powerhouses, increase investment into Auckland and offer greater opportunity to Auckland businesses & entrepreneurs, in turn leading to job creation.
“A range of proposals are being considered by the 3 cities for an alliance work programme, focusing on areas such as air quality & sustainability, waterfront regeneration, port-to-port alliance, chambers of commerce co-operation, film distribution, retail & fashion promotion.”
Auckland & Guangzhou are celebrating 25 years as sister cities.
Mr Brown & Auckland Council finance & performance committee chairwoman Penny Webster will lead a business delegation that will also visit another of Auckland’s sister cities, Ningbo, and Shanghai during the first 4 days of the one-week visit.
