Southpark Corp Ltd owner John Sax has proposed a mixed use precinct in Newmarket, covering 7873m² with 3 street frontages across George St from the Domain, in a development unveiled for public scrutiny last Thursday.
Auckland Council opened the proposal to public submissions on Thursday, closing Thursday 23 July.
The proposed development site would have street access at 33-37 George St, 13-15 Morgan St & 10 Clayton St.
Called the George St precinct under private plan change 44, the proposal by Newmarket Holdings Development LP (general partner Newmarket Holdings Ltd – John Sax of Southpark Corp Ltd) would contain a total gross floor area of 55,286m² at a floor:area ratio of 7.4.
Half that floor area would be in 4 apartment towers – one of them reaching the proposed new height limit of 65m for the development area – while the proposed 464 parking spaces would cover 45%.
The design includes a 1297m² food, beverage & retail plaza and a 2000m² supermarket.
Southpark’s primary development focus over the last 30 years has been on regeneration of industrial zones, starting with the Westfield & Southdown freezing works, and moving on to acquisition & expansion of the Kensington Park residential development in Orewa, the Treetops lodge & estate at Rotorua, and a new estate up the coast from Auckland at Te Arai.
