Jurisdiction: Auckland City
Applicant: Sky City Entertainment Group Ltd
Application: 162 Victoria St West, application by for land use consent to build an 8-level staff parking building with 504 parking spaces.
Decision: Auckland City Council granted the consent on 19 July, saying a significant proportion of trips would be outside peak hours because of staff shift times. It also said the site was being used now as a 165-space short-term public carpark, with the entire frontage used as a crossing. The regional council hasn’t taken further action in opposition.
Auckland Regional Council opposed the application, saying it would further contribute to congestion of the road network, thus undermining the ability to maximise the network’s efficiency. The ARC said the proposed location was within an identified pedestrian-oriented area of the cbd, was inconsistent with the intended function of Victoria St West as a pedestrian-oriented & friendly environment and was inconsistent with the regional growth strategy & regional policy statement.
